About Tugo (English)

Tugo (투고, Korean for “submission”) helps Korean humanities and social-science researchers decide where to submit a paper and get the manuscript ready for that journal.

The problem

Korean university libraries offer “journal recommendation” services: a faculty member or doctoral student fills in a form with the paper’s title, abstract and keywords, and a librarian replies with suggested international journals in about 14 days. Master’s students, independent researchers and lecturers usually cannot use these services at all. After choosing a journal, researchers still spend hours reformatting footnotes, references and layout to each journal’s rules, which are scattered across HWP files, PDFs and society websites.

What works today

  • Journal recommendation in about a minute: a title, abstract and keywords are analyzed for topics and key terms (OpenAlex), matched against humanities and social-science papers published in the last ten years, and turned into a ranked list of journals. Every suggestion shows the similar papers it is based on, plus open-access status, APC and citation indicators.
  • One search across indexes: 1,864 Korean KCI journals in the humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary fields (Korea Citation Index open data, August 2025), 674 CSSCI 2025–2026 source journals, and SSCI / A&HCI / SCIE / Scopus reference flags from Wikidata, each with a link to the official list for verification.
  • Community corrections: researchers can propose a missing or wrong index entry with an evidence link; the operator checks each proposal before it is published.

How we use Claude

  • Korean input → English search queries (live): Claude translates a Korean title and abstract into the terms international scholarship uses, so Korean researchers can search international journals in their own language.
  • AI fit scoring (live): for each candidate journal, Claude rates how well the manuscript fits its scope and readership (1–5) and explains why, citing the journal's recent similar papers, with cautions such as scope mismatch or APC.
  • Submission-guideline cards (live for 32 KCI journals, expanding): Claude reads each journal’s rules (HWP, PDF, web pages; Korean, English and Chinese) and extracts them into one fixed schema — length, citation style, abstract, fees, deadlines — which a person checks against the source before publishing.
  • Pre-submission AI review (live): the researcher uploads the journal’s rules (or picks one of our cards) and the manuscript (HWPX, DOCX, PDF or TXT, read inside the browser). Claude checks length, abstracts, keywords and footnote style item by item, quoting the rule each judgment rests on; counts are computed, not estimated by the model, and any “fix” verdict without a verbatim rule is downgraded to “cannot confirm”.
  • Citation format conversion (live for footnotes and references; full-layout conversion planned, the main paid feature): Claude converts citations to the target style and lists every change, adding placeholders instead of inventing missing data. It never rewrites the author’s argument or wording; we do not offer ghostwriting or editing-for-hire.
  • The founder builds the product with Claude Code, including this site, the data pipelines (KCI, CSSCI, Wikidata) and an HWPX (Hangul word processor) template-filling engine that will produce journal-ready files.

Principles

No ghostwriting, no guaranteed publication, no paid placement in recommendations, sources and check dates on every record, official lists linked for verification, and no Journal Impact Factor republishing.
